How can I troubleshoot off campus access to resources?

I'm having trouble getting access to article databases, electronic journals, or ebooks from home, what can I do?

Answer

To access SDSU library databases, e-journals, and ebooks from off campus, you must log in with your SDSUid (your @sdsu.edu email and password). This login connects you to our proxy server so that resource providers recognize your access as valid.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • Start from the library website. Use OneSearch (Sign In at top right) or the A-Z Database List to ensure your session routes through the proxy server. Look for .libproxy.sdsu.edu in the URL.

  • Check your SDSUid. Try logging into Canvas or another campus system. If that doesn’t work, reset your password.

  • Try the Proxy Bookmarklet. This will reload a proxied version of any website.

  • Try Incognito or Private Mode. This disables browser extensions and avoids saved login errors.

  • Clear your browser cache if you see a “Too Many Redirects” error, or switch browsers.

  • Enable cookies. The proxy requires cookies to function properly.

  • Avoid restricted networks. Military bases or some corporate networks may block proxy traffic. Try a different internet connection.
